About alt text
- Alt text describes images for screen readers and users who can't see images
- It helps search engines understand image content for better SEO
- Alt text is displayed when an image fails to load
- Keep alt text descriptive but concise (under 125 characters recommended)
Alt text best practices
- Be specific and descriptive about what's in the image
- Include relevant keywords naturally, but avoid keyword stuffing
- Don't use "image of" or "picture of" - screen readers already announce it's an image
- For decorative images, use empty alt text: alt=\"\"
- Consider the context where the image appears
- For complex images (charts, diagrams), provide detailed descriptions nearby
