This tool writes the <meta> block for a single page. You enter a title, description, author and Open Graph image URL, and it returns HTML you can paste directly between your <head> tags. It is aimed at anyone hand-editing templates or checking what a CMS is emitting.

The title and description govern how the page appears in search results. Open Graph tags - a shared markup vocabulary that Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack and most chat apps read - govern how it appears when someone pastes the link. They are separate systems, which is why a page can look correct in search and wrong in a Slack preview.

For a page about converting pyeong to square meters, the generated block looks like this:

<title>Pyeong to Square Meters Converter</title>
<meta name="description" content="Convert pyeong to square meters instantly. One pyeong is 3.3058 m2, the unit Korean listings still use for apartment size.">
<meta name="author" content="UrwaTools">
<meta property="og:title" content="Pyeong to Square Meters Converter">
<meta property="og:description" content="Convert pyeong to square meters instantly.">
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/img/pyeong-converter.png">

Note that og:title and og:description repeat the values rather than inheriting them. Social crawlers do not fall back to the standard meta tags reliably, so stating both is the safer habit.

Meta tags describe a page; they do not rank it. Google treats the description as a candidate snippet rather than a ranking input, and rewrites it whenever it judges another passage a better answer to the query. Writing a good one still matters, because the version Google keeps is the one that earns the click - but do not expect a tag change alone to move a position.

The keywords tag is included for completeness and because some internal search systems still read it. Google has ignored it for well over a decade.

Once the tags are live, confirm what is actually being served with the meta tags analyzer, check the social preview with the Open Graph checker, and tighten the wording with the title tag optimizer and meta description optimizer. More in SEO tools.

Frequently asked questions

What meta tags does a page actually need?
A title and a meta description cover the search result. Add a viewport tag for mobile rendering and a canonical tag if the page is reachable at more than one URL. Open Graph tags are optional but worth adding, since without them link previews fall back to whatever text a crawler finds first.
Do meta keywords still work?
Not for Google, which stopped using the keywords tag as a ranking signal in 2009 and has said so publicly since. Some site search products and a few regional engines still read it. Including it costs nothing, but it will not affect your Google rankings either way.
Why does Google show different text than my meta description?
Google treats the description as one candidate snippet among several. When a passage from the page body answers the query more directly, it uses that instead. This happens on a large share of results. Writing a description that matches search intent makes it more likely yours is kept.
What size should the Open Graph image be?
1200 by 630 pixels is the widely supported ratio for a large preview card. Use an absolute URL, not a relative path, because social crawlers fetch the image independently of the page. Keep the file under about 5 MB or some platforms will skip it.
Should og:title repeat the title tag?
Yes, state both. Social crawlers do not reliably fall back from Open Graph tags to standard meta tags, so a page with only a title tag can end up with a blank or truncated preview. Repeating the value is a few extra bytes and removes the failure mode.
